Rick Stone admits he knows virtually nothing about the Huddersfield Giants’ Championship opponents in the Middle 8s.

But that’s something that doesn’t concern him as he continues to focus all of his attention on learning as much about his own players as possible.

Having started just his fourth week as Giants head coach following his arrival from Australia, the former Newcastle Knights boss is still getting to know the strengths and weaknesses of the players under his command.

And it’s that process rather than doing major homework on Championship opponents Batley, Featherstone, Leigh and London as the Giants prepare for their seven-game battle to avoid relegation that Stone believes will hold the key to success.

“Obviously, in the build-up to playing these sides we’ll take a bit of a look at them,” said Stone.

“But for me it’s still all about taking a close look at the players at my disposal and coming up with ways to get the very best out of them.

“There’s no doubting the ability of this group. There’s a lot of quality here.

“And I know that if we focus on ourselves and get playing to our full potential we’ll put ourselves in a very strong position indeed.

“As far as I’m concerned, these next few months are all about taking care of ourselves and improving week by week.

“Everything we’re doing at the moment is making sure we’re in the best possible shape we can for Salford on Sunday.”
