Jack Hughes is desperate to help the Huddersfield Giants secure victory at Wigan tonight – even if it means upsetting his parent club.

The England Knights back-row forward moved to Huddersfield on a season-long loan from the Warriors three months ago, with Larne Patrick going in the opposite direction.

Hughes agreed to the switch in a bid to secure more Super League gametime, having fallen behind Liam Farrell, Joel Tomkins and John Bateman in the Wigan second-row pecking order.

But even though this is a chance for the 23-year-old to prove to Wigan chief Shaun Wane it was a mistake to let him go, the opportunity to help the Giants make amends for Sunday’s 19-0 opening-day home defeat to Hull FC is top of his agenda.

“After the way things went last weekend, all that matters is getting the win,” said Hughes.

“And it doesn’t matter who it’s against.

“Obviously the fact it’s Wigan means I’m coming up against my mates and playing against my hometown club for the first time, so it’s going to be a bit of a strange experience.

“But that’s not been my main focus this week.

“It’s all about coming up with the right response from last Sunday and starting to play to our potential, because we fell so far short against Hull.

“All I’m bothered about is giving my best for the Giants. The fact it’s Wigan makes no difference to me, and I certainly don’t feel I need to make a point to anyone.”
