Relieved Jamie Ellis is ready to see his Giants career kick-on.

The 25-year-old former Castleford half-back or hooker marked his Huddersfield debut by scoring two tries and setting up another in the impressive 38-6 pre-season triumph at Halifax.

It was a performance that’s added to the confidence of Ellis, who now can’t wait to face former club Hull in Huddersfield’s opening Super League XX clash at the John Smith’s Stadium on Sunday, February 8.

“This was a game I really needed,” said Ellis.

“I felt pretty nervous before it started, because it was my Huddersfield debut and I was keen to make a positive impression.

“But apart from feeling a bit rusty, I was fairly happy with the way it went. To be honest, it was a bit of a relief to get that first game out of the way.

“I’m now hoping I can really start to push on and make sure we’re as competitive as we possibly can be next season.

“There were some positive signs across the board with the performance against Halifax, and I’m looking forward to seeing how things go between myself and Danny Brough.

“He’s stated publicly how he hopes I can take some of the pressure off his kicking game by using my kicking game, and I’d like to think the signs were there the other day that this could be the case.

“I know it’s early days and there’s still room for massive improvement, but the Halifax game was a good start.”
