DAVID FAIUMU has been ruled out of the Huddersfield Giants’ big Super League XVIII home clash against Warrington Wolves on Sunday (3.00).

But Jason Chan is standing by to make his long-awaited return as second-placed Huddersfield look to keep the pressure on leaders Wigan Warriors.

Former New Zealand Test hooker Faiumu picked up a rib injury during his side’s excellent 28-20 triumph at Catalan Dragons last weekend, with head coach Paul Anderson fearing he could be sidelined for several weeks.

Faiumu’s midfield spark will be missed.

But with Chan fit again after suffering a knee injury during the 32-8 victory at Super League champions Leeds Rhinos on March 8, Anderson knows he still has a wealth of strike-power at his disposal.

“Fuey’s going to be out for at least a week,” said Anderson.

“He’s obviously undergoing treatment and, hopefully, he’ll respond positively to that.

“It’s disappointing to be losing him, but it’s also good to know Channy is available to us again.

“He started the season exceptionally well, so his injury at Leeds really couldn’t have come at a worse time.

“But he’s worked well to get himself fit as quickly as possible and he’s in with a good chance of playing this weekend.

“He trained well yesterday, and if he comes through the final sessions with no ill effects then there’s a good chance we’ll see him on Sunday.

“It’ll be good to see him back out there.”
