Jodie Broughton is hoping his own personal record against Warrington will rub off on his Huddersfield Giants teammates at the John Smith’s Stadium this weekend.

Huddersfield have an awful recent record against the Wolves, with their last success against former coach Tony Smith’s men having come with a 29-10 home triumph on April 8, 2011.

Since then, Warrington have won the last nine meetings between the two clubs, including two at Huddersfield ahead of Sunday’s Super League showdown.

But with Broughton having notched up several wins over Warrington during his time at Salford, the 26-year-old England Knights winger is keeping his finger crossed his success rate can be transferred to his new club.

“It’s become a bit of a talking point in the game about how Warrington have become the Giants’ bogey team,” said Broughton, who was among the tryscorers in the demoralising 30-14 defeat at previously winless Catalan Dragons six days ago.

“Even when the Giants won the League Leaders’ Shield last year and were beating almost everyone that stood in their way, Warrington beat them four times (two League, one play-off and one Challenge Cup).

“But that was last year, and that shouldn’t affect what happens this year. It certainly won’t be on my mind.

“I’ve personally got a pretty decent record against them (Warrington), and been part of several wins over them when they weren’t really expected.

“They play an expansive style and that’s something that suits me. I enjoy the chance to exploit some space, and quite often they give you a sniff, which I obviously hope will be the case this weekend.”

But Broughton has revealed the fact it’s Warrington this weekend hasn’t been the players’ major concern.

“The talk this week hasn’t hardly been about Warrington, to be honest,” he added.

“It’s been about trying to right the many wrongs of our performance at Catalan. If that performance had been ok, we’d probably have come away feeling a little more upbeat.

“But the performance was nowhere near the standard we expect, and putting that right has been our main focus in training.”
