ON-LOAN St Helens star Stuart Jones has been handed the green light to play for the Giants in Sunday's Powergen Challenge Cup semi-final at Warrington (3.15).

There is nothing in the 22-year-old back-row forward's contract preventing him from playing against his employers as the pair battle it out for a final showdown with Wigan at Cardiff.

That's fantastic news for Giants coach Jon Sharp, who looks certain to name Jones in the starting line-up for the eagerly-awaited big match.

It's also fantastic news for Jones, who can now prepare to play in the biggest game of his career - against some of his closest friends!

"Strictly speaking, I'm still a St Helens player," he said.

"But there's nothing in my contract that says I can't play against Saints.

"I'm delighted about that, because this match is by far the biggest of my career.

"I was in the Saints' squad when we were in the semi-final against Leeds last season, but I didn't play.

"Hopefully, it'll be a different story on Sunday, and we can make the final.

"When the game starts it won't really bother me that I'm facing my great Saints mates, because all I want to do is get to the final with Huddersfield Giants.

"If we follow Jon Sharp's gameplan we have a chance."

Wigan beat Warrington 30-18 in yesterday's first semi-final at Widnes.
