LAST Sunday’s Cup win over Catalan was a test of character as much as anything else.
We knew we weren’t at our best and were up against dogged and determined opponents.
As a result, we really did have to dig deep to secure the victory and set up the quarter-final tie at Castleford in two months’ time.
But as well as trying to get the better of the Dragons, we also had to contend with getting the better of the elements. That in itself was a massive task.
When we were warming up, I was trying to judge the direction of the horrendously strong wind.
It was an impossibility.
One minute it was blowing one way, the next it was swirling and then seconds later it was blowing the other way.
On top of that, there were these horrible heavy showers, so the ball was greasy as well as heading in all directions.
Obviously, it was the same for both sides, but I’d like to think they’re conditions we won’t experience again in a hurry.
