Rising Huddersfield Giants star Kruise Leeming has today signed a two-year Super League contract extension.

The deal will keep the 19-year-old hooker at the John Smith’s Stadium until the end of the 2017 season, with the homegrown Academy product looking to build on his four 2015 Super League appearances so far at home to Wigan on Sunday.

The former Siddal junior is clearly in the frame to face the Warriors after featuring in the recent League wins over Hull and Salford and draws against Leeds and Catalans, with head coach Paul Anderson relishing the chance to work with the teenager for a further two years.

“Kruise had a chance in first grade earlier in the year and took it with both hands, which was great to see”, said Anderson. “As a young hooker, he is right in the thick of the action and we must manage his game-time carefully as he continues to mature physically and mentally.

“He has a good skill set and awareness of the needs of games and I’m very happy he’s staying around for at least a couple of more years, and I look forward to seeing him continue to improve.”

And Leeming admits he couldn’t be happier to be remaining a Giant.

“I’m really happy at Huddersfield and feel I’m getting stronger with the training regime here, and to have a guaranteed couple more years is ideal,” he said.

“It’s a whole different ball game, speed and strength-wise moving from the Academy to Super League, but I think I’ve done okay so far.

“I know there’s lots of competition here for places and the off-season will be important to me.

“But for now I’m working to keep my place in the side and trying to get us as high up the league as possible.“

Scott Grix will miss the game against Wigan Warriors at home in Super League on Sunday. He was handed a one-match ban after being charged with striking with the shoulder in the Magic Weekend clash with Catalans Dragons.

Winger Aaron Murphy was found not guilty of striking with the shoulder on Catalans’ Willie Tonga and is free to face Wigan.
