Kyle Wood is ready to step back onto the training field after a four-month absence and fight for a Giants starting spot for the Super League 2015 home opener against Hull FC in February.

The 25-year-old hooker or half-back was forced to undergo a knee reconstruction after rupturing his right anterior cruciate knee ligament during Huddersfield’s 38-16 home victory over Catalan Dragons in July.

That ended a run of 32 consecutive Giants appearances for the former Castleford Academy star and brought a premature end to his rock-solid 2014 campaign.

Wood has spent the past four months undergoing intensive rehabilitation in a bid to be fit for the start of next year.

And having just been given the green light to start running again on the field with the rest of his teammates, he can finally see some light at the end of the tunnel.

“All being well, I’ll be back on the training pitch next week,” said Wood.

“If that’s the case, then I know there’s a fair chance I could be back in contention for our opening game against Hull on February 8.

“I have to admit these past few months have been really tough. It’s a very lonely place when you’re stuck doing your rehab work and the rest of the boys are training and playing together.

“But I know that times’s nearly behind me now, and I can start to look forward far more positively.

“I just hope that when I do start playing again I can rediscover the form I was showing before I got injured, because I was happy with the way things had been going.”
