EXCITED Luke Robinson is happy for the Huddersfield Giants to produce another ‘ugly’ performance at Hull on Sunday – if it can guarantee Challenge Cup fourth-round success.

Huddersfield head to the KC Stadium having beaten the Black and Whites 22-4 on Monday to go two points clear at the top of the Super League XVII table.

The Giants had to scrap for their lives to prevent their visitors securing a seventh win on the trot.

But in-form England hooker Robinson won’t be complaining if his side books a place in the fifth-round draw after winning another scrappy encounter.

“When it comes to the Cup competition, it doesn’t matter how you play. It’s the result that matters,” said Robinson, who grabbed a close-range second try for the Giants in their hard-fought Easter Monday success.

“And it certainly won’t bother me if the game is a repeat of what we saw against Hull on Monday.

“That was a bit of a scrappy result and that can often be the case in the second game over Easter, because players can often be fatigued.

“On top of that, the conditions didn’t really help with it being wet and windy and it added to the fatigue factor, but we ground out the win.

“It probably wasn’t the prettiest of games, but we went up against Hull who were second in the table so to get the win was very satisfying.”

And Robinson knows that victory could make Hull an even more dangerous proposition when the sides line up again at the KC this weekend.

“I suppose the win the other day does give us a slight psychological advantage,” he added. “But we also know that’ll make Hull all the more determined to beat us in the Cup. They’d love to gain quick revenge against us.

“That’s something of which we’re only too well aware, although we are confident we can get the right result.

“After making such a good start in Super League we’re determined to carry that form into the Challenge Cup.

“The game this weekend is obviously a lot different, because there are no second chances in the Cup.

“But if we can build on the way we’ve been playing in the League we know we can do it.”
