Huddersfield Giants coach Paul Anderson is looking for an ‘honest’ performance from his players as they bid to build on their opening Super League XXI triumph of the season.

Huddersfield opened their 2016 top-flight account at the fifth attempt with their 38-6 home destruction of Hull KR last weekend.

It was a win which has put Anderson’s men in upbeat mood ahead of Sunday’s clash against Catalans Dragons at the John Smith’s Stadium.

But while Anderson was delighted to see his side get off the mark against the Robins, he’s demanding a far better all-round team performance this weekend.

“Although it was good to get that first win, it was pretty clear there’s still an awful lot of improvement that needs to be made,” said Anderson.

“It all starts by making sure our attitude is right against Catalans this weekend and playing with some real honesty.

“We need to make sure we respect possession, defend with vigour and defend with honesty. If we can do that and turn the ball over on our terms, then I know we’ll be alright.

“We’re at home this weekend, and we’ve got to make sure that counts.”

And the head coach will be looking at his pack to provide a winning platform once again.

“Everyone contributed last week, which was the key,” added the former Great Britain prop.

“And we know that’s going to have to be the case again this weekend against a quality Catalans side with threats all across the park.

“Although there were certain things with the way the pack played that need to be looked at, there’s no doubt the likes of Sam Rapira and Ryan Hinchcliffe, as well as Eorl Crabtree and Joe Wardle, who looked good on their returns following injury, helped us play on the front foot,

“They obviously need to do that again and so does everyone else.

“With everyone coming through the Hull KR game relatively unscathed, we’re looking to get some continuity into our game.

“And if we can pick up another win against Catalans this weekend, we’ll have some real momentum going into the busy Easter period.”
