Improving discipline is the key to future Huddersfield Giants success in Super League.

That’s the message from head coach Paul Anderson after a blank Easter weekend return.

The Giants had only themselves to blame for the 18-12 Good Friday home defeat to Salford Red Devils and the 20-16 Easter Monday reverse at Hull KR.

A lack of respect for possession was Huddersfield’s downfall against Salford, while continuing to make errors and conceding too many penalties was at the heart of a second defeat in four days on the east coast.

The Giants conceded 10 penalties while Hull KR gave away only two at the KC Lightstream Stadium on Monday afternoon.

And Anderson knows this frustrating pattern of events has to stop in order for his side to return to winning ways – something he’s demanding at home to St Helens on Sunday.

“The game at Hull KR seemed to be one where neither team really wanted to win it,” said Anderson.

“That clearly appeared to be the case with us.

“Once again we made far too many errors, and then conceded a lot of penalties on top of that.

“To be honest, I didn’t think we were quite as bad as the count suggested, but we’ve still only got ourselves to blame for it being that way, and that’s something we don’t want to repeat.

“I said to the players straight after Monday’s game that at the moment we have an inability to stay disciplined and composed.

“Discipline isn’t just about giving penalties away, it’s about sticking to what we do and sticking to our plans and structures.

“It’s something we’ve got to make sure we do against St Helens this weekend.”
