Jake Mamo has arrived in Huddersfield.

The new Giants full-back jetted in to England yesterday following his move from Australian NRL club Newcastle Knights and will train with his new teammates for the first time tomorrow.

The 22-year-old watched his new club secure last night’s highly-impressive 12-0 pre-season triumph at Warrington Wolves.

But he’s got a date with the Giants’ physio team today to assess his fitness after undergoing post-season surgery on a leg injury, with head coach Rick Stone hoping Mamo will be in Super League action sooner rather than later.

“Jake’s here and looking forward to meeting everyone,” said Stone.

“We know he’s going to miss the first couple of rounds, but we’re hopeful it won’t be too long before we see him in the claret and gold for the first time.

“He’s seeing the physio staff today and will then start to do some stuff with the full squad over the last few days.”

Mamo, Lee Gaskell and Sam Rapira were the only members of the senior squad not involved against the Wolves, with Gaskell and Rapira not risked due to injury niggles.

And there was also a relatively brief debut from new Australian prop Shannon Wakeman who was used very sparingly on the night.

“It was always the intention to give him two little cameo roles of about 10 minutes each half.

“He’s still got a bit of jet lag in his body, and there was no real point pushing him too hard in a trial game, particularly with the start of the new Super League season just around the corner.”
