What a change a week can bring! Optimism again.

And what a different atmosphere there was at the Giants Awards Evening to what it would have been had Sunday’s result gone the other way.

Yes, there were admissions that the season had been poor, and that we are not out of the wood yet, but confidence abounded with regard to the forthcoming visit to Hull KR tomorrow.

Let’s hope that the confidence is fulfilled – unlike that which exuded from Rick Stone’s visit to our meeting two weeks ago.

But what of the Awards Evening?

It was mentioned in this column last week that the lads from Huddersfield were in a minority for showing the necessary level of commitment in a match. This was reflected on Monday night.

Jermaine McGillvary received HGSA’s Wagstaff Trophy for the player our members would least like to leave the club.

Michael Lawrence was voted the Giants On Tour Player of the Season.

And Leroy Cudjoe was given the double accolade of Supporters Player of the Year and acknowledged by his team-mates as being their Player of the Season.

Not only can the Giants and Huddersfield feel justifiably proud for three home grown players to be the recipients of such prestigious awards.

But also an extra special mention must be made of Newsome Panthers, from whose ranks these three came.

A huge “Well Done Newsome Panthers”. Keep the production line going.

It is a shame to end this week’s column on a sour note – especially after such high points, but a single word will sum up a lot of supporters current angry feelings – Sky.

Personally, two weeks ago I arranged a short break which would have ended with passing through Hull on Sunday.

The very next day it was announced that our crucial match would be played on Saturday.

All I can say is: “Thank you very much Sky”.

Huddersfield Giants fans

And there are many more disgruntled fans.

HGSA’s next meeting is on October 4, and it will be our AGM.

The committee for the forthcoming year will be selected.

Sorry, I won’t see you at Hull on Sunday, but go if you are able to go on Saturday give the Giants a shout for me!
