GIANTS chief Jon Sharp is calling for his players to produce the performance of their lives to guarantee Super League success against champions Leeds Rhinos at the Galpharm tomorrow (3.00).

It’s a tough opening assignment for Huddersfield against a Leeds side who already have one top-flight triumph against Hull KR under their belts, as well as a victory over top Australian club South Sydney in an exhibition match in America.

But following three excellent pre-season wins and with the players reported to be “in the shape of their lives”, Sharp feels his side have what it takes to make the best possible start in their bid to reach the play-offs for a second successive season.

“We feel ready to play and are excited about the challenge,” said Sharp, left.

“We believe we have a genuine chance of making a winning start.

“But we know that to do that, every player and every coach has to be at their best.

“We all know we have to produce the performance of our lives.

“We need to do that for ourselves, and we need to do that for the fans.

“All the signs suggest we should attract a crowd of around 15,000 and, if that’s the case, it’s up to us to rock up and give them something to shout about.

“This is our big day and we’re desperate to make the most of it.

“We’re looking in pretty good shape, and at this stage I haven’t given up hope on Rod Jensen (right) being fit to play after his ankle injury.

“But whoever plays, we want this to be an occasion to savour.”
