JON SHARP believes the arrival of John Skandalis will give the Giants a massive pre-Christmas lift for Super League XII.
The former Wests Tigers prop jetted in from Australia last night to take up a two-year contract with the Super League club.
The 32-year-old, arrives in the country with a massive reputation and was speaking to the press today.
He was the leader of the Wests' pack for years, with the former Australian Test squad man expected to fill a similar role with the Giants.
And Huddersfield chief Sharp has sensed a real feeling of excitement, particularly among the forwards, about his arrival.
"Everyone in the game is well aware of John's reputation, and it really was a massive coup when we signed him," said Sharp.
"Having a natural pack leader is probably something the Giants have lacked over the years, but in John we've now got one.
"He's earned a reputation for being a player who never takes a backward step and sets a superb example, both on and off the field. I'm looking forward to coaching him, and I know the other forwards are excited about playing alongside him.
"There's no doubt he'll give everyone a massive lift when he checks in for training for the first time.
"The players can't wait and it will be a massive boost to have him among the squad."
Skandalis is the first of the Giants' three new Wests Tigers' signings to arrive.
The other two, Shane Elford and Jamahl Lolesi, will be jetting in at the end of the month.
