THE Huddersfield Giants will be hoping to beat Warrington tonight for a couple off reasons.

For a start, they would earn a weekend off and not have to play an extra game when defeat would end their season.

But, on top of that, the Giants would also have home advantage for the qualifying play-off semi-final final when the prize would be a place in the Super League Grand Final on Saturday, October 8.

This, of course, is just one of the potential scenarios, with the full list given below:

Victory over Warrington: The Giants will progress to week three and will be guaranteed a week off. They will take part in the qualifying semi-final 2 as the lowest-ranked qualifying play-off winner – facing the side who haven’t been selected in Club Call at the Galpharm Stadium for a place in the Grand Final.

Defeat to Warrington: The Giants be back at the Galpharm the following weekend for the preliminary semi-finals when defeat would end the season for the team as this is a straight knock-out fixture with the losers eliminated.

Victory over Warrington, but defeat in week 3: Huddersfield’s the season would be over at the qualifying semi-final stage.

Defeat to Warrington, but a win in week 2: With the Giants having the benefit of a second bite of the cherry for finishing in the top four, the preliminary semi-final in week two becomes a straight knock-out clash. Defeat signals the end of the team’s hopes in 2011, whereas victory puts them into the qualifying semi-final – but this would be away from home due to the defeat in week one.

Victory over Warrington and victory in week 3: The dream scenario! Victory over Warrington and a win at the Galpharm in the qualifying semi-final would see the Giants run out in the Old Trafford Grand Final for the first time and be 80 minutes away from taking the silverware.
