Coach Paul Anderson and captain Danny Brough have combined to hail Eorl Crabtree as the long-serving Huddersfield Giants prop prepares to maintain his ever-present Magic Weekend record.

The one-club star, who is fresh from signing a new two-year contract, is among a select band of seven players to have featured in all eight previous events, which have taken place at Cardiff, Edinburgh and Manchester.

The Super League extravaganza, which this year features six matches, has now moved to Newcastle, with the Giants facing Catalans Dragons in the first of the Sunday showdowns at 1.00.

Only two other players, Leeds Rhinos duo Ryan Hall and Kevin Sinfield, have appeared for the same club in all eight Magic Weekends, and Crabtree, 32, is aiming to help Huddersfield make it six wins in nine versions of the two-day top-flight festival.

The England international scored the late try which sealed the Giants’ 24-16 win at Castleford Tigers last time out.

“Eorl will stop at some point, but not just yet,” smiled Anderson, whose Giants are fourth and aiming to make it 11 points from six league games at the expense of the sixth-placed French side.

“He is a very recognisable figure who offers a lot to both the club and the sport on and off the field.

“He’s got a lot going for him, and the great thing is he still wants to learn and improve.”

Brough added: “Eorl is Mr Huddersfield isn’t he? He seems to have been around forever, but he is still playing well and all credit to him for that.”

Anderson will give a fitness test to back Leroy Cudjoe, who missed the Castleford match with a knee injury.
