Angry Giants coach Paul Anderson believes Salford playmaker Rangi Chase deserves a lengthy spell on the sidelines for the challenge that could rule out Brett Ferres for four months.

The Huddersfield chief was smarting after yesterday’s 20-16 Super League defeat at Hull KR when he admitted his players had only themselves to blame for falling to a second defeat over Easter.

But while he knows he can fix the Giants’ failings with ball in hand, his main concern was the way in which Ferres picked up a serious injury to his right ankle, which has resulted in Chase being charged with a Grade E offence for dangerous contact during the Good Friday clash.

He could get an eight-match ban when he appears in front of RFL disciplinary chiefs.

“If it’s eight it’s still not enough,” said Anderson.

“To be honest, I’d really like to see them throw the book at Chase for what he did to Brett. It was a cowardly attack and he’s got history, hasn’t he?

“There’s no way I’d ever coach a player to attack the standing leg of an opponent, which is what happened here. I’ve got two bad knees because of that.

“At this stage, we still don’t know for sure how long Brett’s going to be out – he’s still undergoing scans – but we’re definitely looking at between three and four months.

“We certainly missed Brett against Hull KR, although even with him in the side it would still have been a struggle because of the errors we’re still continuing to make.”
