RISING Huddersfield star Leroy Cudjoe has been promoted to the Giants' Super League squad.

The 18-year-old utility back made a name for himself at Newsome Panthers and has earned a full-time contract on the back of his quality displays in the Academy.

The former Newsome High School pupil spent the end of last season training with the first-team squad.

And Giants football manager Stuart Sheard believes the deal has been well earned.

"Leroy joined us on our Scholarship scheme when he was 14, and he has gone from strength to strength," said Sheard.

"His attitude has always been first-class and there's no doubt he has bags of potential.

"This deal has come on the back of some outstanding performances with the Academy when he has always impressed the coaching staff.

"He also impressed everyone with the way he knuckled down when he got the chance to train with the first team last season.

"Leroy is living proof that if you are prepared to work hard the rewards will come, and the fact he's a Huddersfield lad is obviously a bonus.

"He's a great addition."
