Danny Brough has pledged to play a full part in Huddersfield Giants pre-season training – despite leading Scotland’s bid for European Championship glory.

The Huddersfield half-back will tomorrow tonight captain the Scots in their tournament opener against Wales in Workington. They’ve also got games against Ireland and France.

Brough is joined in Scotland coach Steve McCormack’s squad by Joe Wardle, but four of their Giants teammates, Craig Kopczak and Larne Patrick (Wales) and Scott Grix and Anthony Mullally (Ireland), instead opted to take a complete break before the start of pre-season training at the end of this month.

But after an injury-hit end to the season, Brough admits he’s desperate to get back onto the field and then forego a break to return immediately to the club for the build-up to the 2015 Super League campaign.

“I just want to get back on the pitch as quickly as I can to put the poor back end of the season behind me,” said Brough.

“Baloo (Giants coach Paul Anderson) gave me the option and I chose to come and play. I enjoy playing for Scotland, I get on well with the lads and I have a good crack with Steve McCormack.

“I’m not having any more time off after I’ve played this any way, I’m going straight back to training.

“It’s something I enjoy doing. I’m not one that likes to sit at home and dwell on things. I get a bit bored, I like to be doing something. My wife is happy for me to do it, and we might still get away for a week later in the year.”
