Giants coach Paul Anderson is hoping a potential treble over Warrington Wolves can be the launchpad for a big Super League finish.

Huddersfield’s bid to secure a top-four play-off semi-final spot has been boosted by securing the double over former coach Tony Smith’s men during the regular 2015 campaign.

The treble will be completed with a Super 8s win over Warrington at the John Smith’s Stadium on Sunday, when victory would also confirm the Giants’ place in the semi-final series and keep alive the dream of a first Super League Grand Final appearance at Old Trafford.

And Anderson knows how much more of a boost another win over Warrington in 2015 – following on from the 29-10 away triumph in March and 30-19 home success three months later – could be to his trophy-chasing team.

“To be honest, we’re focusing on this game on Sunday in isolation,” said Anderson.

“We know it’s a game we have to win to guarantee a semi-final spot and to make sure we keep on building positively towards the end of the season.

“For that reason, we haven’t spoken as a group about completing the double over Warrington this year.

“But the fact we have beaten the club who had become our bogey team twice this season, as well as becoming the first Huddersfield side to complete the double over Warrington in the Super League era, is something that’s been important to us. We’ve taken the plaudits for that, although we’ve made sure we’ve not got too carried away by it.

“They are just two important wins on the way to helping us achieve our goal of finishing in the top four.

“But they are obviously two wins which gave everyone a big lift at the time, given our recent record against them, and completing the treble this weekend would give us a further boost at a very important time of the year.

“Getting another win on Sunday is massive for us.”

Anderson is in a position to field an unchanged side, with all 17 who featured in last week’s 40-26 home triumph over Castleford Tigers available for selection.

Opponents Warrington could also keep changes to a minimum following their impressive 46-16 victory over Hull FC at the Halliwell-Jones Stadium on Sunday, although experienced prop Ashton Simms will return following suspension.

And Wolves’ boss and former Giants head coach Tony Smith admits his side will be travelling across the M62 in very good spirits, despite having missed out on a play-off spot.

“We’ve been good this week. It’s been a better week in terms of smiles on faces and being able to do a happy and healthy review,” said Smith.

“It’s been a little while since we’ve been able to do that, so it was great to be able to show the players a lot of what they had produced in a positive way. We are looking to build on that this week.

“Huddersfield will be a good challenge. They have the best defensive record in the competition and have shown they are tough to beat this year.

“We will have to be good going over there. We’ve had some close tussles and they’ve managed to get the wood on us in the last two outings, so we’re keen not to make it three.”

With a win guaranteeing the Giants a top-four finish and semi-final play-off spot, the club are hosting a Family Funday ahead of the 3pm kick-off.

There will be a host of activities for children before the game, including a bouncy castle and face painting in Big G’s Den, as well as all the usual rugby activities and giveaways outside the John Smith’s Stadium. The Giants will also be joined by all the emergency services, who will be showcasing their vehicles and equipment outside the stadium.

And season-ticket holders are reminded they can utilise any of their remaining Bring a Buddy vouchers (1 or 2), meaning they can bring an adult friend for £15 or Over 65s/Under 23s for just £10.
