GIANTS coach Jon Sharp has today begun finalising plans for the start of a three-game strategy.
Sharp sends his squad into battle for the first time on Sunday when Huddersfield visit Halifax (3.00).
The Giants then follow up with the home clash against Castleford on Friday, January 30 (7.30) and the trip to face Leeds in Francis Cummins' testimonial game on Sunday, February 8 (3.00).
Only then will Sharp start to consider his 17 for the Super League IX opener against Castleford at the McAlpine on Sunday, February 22.
And he admits he has a clean selection slate.
"I have a very open mind as to who I intend to play in the Super League opener," said Sharp, who will be the guest speaker at the Senior Giants meeting on Thursday (2.15).
"Everything depends on what happens in these three games.
"Those who are picked this weekend have the first chance to show me what they can do.
"For those that impress, there's the chance for a run-out against Castleford.
"And obviously those that impress against the Tigers will be in the frame to face Leeds.
"Only after that final game at Headingley will I decide the team that will play in the first Super League match.
"It's something of which all my players are very well aware."
Sharp is keeping team selection close to his chest at this stage, although it's highly unlikely he'll be fielding all of his `big guns'.
But he has confirmed it will include several members of his first-team squad.
