Fit-again hooker Shaun Lunt is set to make his eagerly-awaited Huddersfield Giants return in Sunday’s home Super League clash against Warrington Wolves.

But Joe Wardle has been ruled out for up to a month after suffering ankle ligament damage during last weekend’s defeat at Catalan Dragons.

Head coach Paul Anderson admits the news of in-form centre Wardle is a blow, but knows the return of Lunt after an ankle injury will help ease some of the pain.

“It’s disappointing for Joe and for the team,” said Anderson.

“He plays the game with a lot of intent, and there’s nothing he likes doing more than defending with vigour.

“In fact, he was doing that even after picking up his injury in France.

“But, unfortunately, he has suffered a fair amount of ankle ligament damage and we expect him to be out for between three to four weeks. The only consolation is that we know it could have been worse.

“On the other hand, we should have Lunty back this weekend, which is obviously good news.

“There’s been a lot of pressure on Kyle Wood trying to steer the team around the field, especially when the team’s not been playing all that well.

Lunty’s looking good in training this week, and if he comes through the sessions tomorrow and Saturday he’ll come back in.”
