Huddersfield Giants hooker Shaun Lunt is back in training with his sights set on playing in the home Super League derby clash with Wakefield Trinity Wildcats in 10 days’ time.

The 26-year-old, who was a Grand Final winner while on loan from the Giants to Leeds Rhinos last season, will be hoping to play his part in landing Huddersfield some silverware.

The Giants go into the match with the Wildcats on Sunday, September 1 (6.15) needing just two points to secure the top of the table slot – their first ‘championship’ success for 81 years.

Lunt missed the Giants 26-12 success at London Broncos in the last round of Super League due to a shoulder injury suffered in Huddersfield’s stunning 30-12 triumph at Wigan Warriors in the previous round of matches.

“Shaun did a bit of damage in that shoulder charge in the Wigan game, but he is available again,” said Giants head coach Paul Anderson.

“He is joining us in training and he will be in the frame for the game against Wakefield.”

Skipper Danny Brough suffered a head injury at The Stoop but Anderson is happy he will be part of an almost full-strength squad.

“We have some bumps and bruises but nothing that will keep anyone out, so we can start building for Wakefield,” he added.

“The only one we are without is Stuart Fielden, who has now retired from playing and is joining the coaching staff.”
