They're part of one of the hardest-working departments in rugby league.

But that hasn’t stopped Giants junior development chiefs Steve Hardisty and Andy Kelly spending time raising cash for the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice.

Huddersfield Player Performance Manager Hardisty is leading the way by taking part in one major sporting challenge a month for the next 10 months, while Head of Youth Performance Kelly is joining his colleague for three of the events.

Hardisty is already up and running on his ‘Big 10’ challenge, having competed in the Huddersfield 10k last month and chalking up a highly-respectable time of 44 minutes.

The 33-year-old will be joined by Kelly for the Leeds 10k, Manchester Bike Ride and Great North Run in September, with the initial aim of raising £1,000 for the Brackenhall-based hospice.

And Hardisty, whose final challenge will be the New York Marathon in November and is financing all 10 of his events himself, is confident his target will easily be reached.

“Doing ‘the big 10’ is something I’ve wanted to do for a while now,” said Hardisty.

“So with the Giants being in partnership with the Forget Me Not hospice, it seemed ideal to raise the cash for them,

“I got under way with the Huddersfield 10k last month and will finish with the New York Marathon in November, and in between I’ll be doing half marathons, triathlons and cycle races. In fact, I’m doing a bike ride as part of the Tour de Yorkshire cycle race in May.

“It’s going to be hard work, but I’m really looking forward to it, and it’s good to be supported by Andy for three of the events.

“We are part of a very busy department at the Giants, but it’s great to be able to help one of the club’s main charities at the same time.

“It gives us a great sense of achievement.”

Hardisty has now set up his own online site to help raise funds and the email address is www.justgiving.com/Steve-Hardisty1 .
