HUDDERSFIELD Giants have announced their support for a new charity.

The ‘Side by Side’ Campaign to help support Yorkshire Regiment and Yorkshire Gunners will be launched at next Sunday’s Super League XVIII home clash against Hull KR.

The aptly named ‘Side by Side’ campaign will work to raise funds for the Yorkshire Regiment Benevolent Trust and the Royal Artillery Charitable Fund along with the Giants own Talent Builder Programme.

The Giants have been working closely with representatives from, the Yorkshire Regiment and the 5th Regiment Royal Artillery, ‘The Yorkshire Gunners’, to develop this brand new charity support campaign.

Next weekend’s launch will have a real ‘forces’ feel with troop carriers and army equipment on display in the Community Zone and a full guard of honour by soldiers.

Just before kick-off the Giants will also ask all of the claret and gold faithful and Hull KR fans in the stadium to show their ‘Side by Side’ support for the armed forces by holding a minutes applause in celebration of all forces personal both active and retired.

Giants Business Development Manager Robbie Hunter-Paul (pictured right) is keen to ask as much of the Huddersfield and Yorkshire fan base to help get this exciting new venture off to a running start and turn out in great numbers.

Hunter-Paul said “Over the past few months it has been really an exciting time exploring the potential of this new approach to raising funds for the armed forces charities and our own talent builder programme.

“We have been working closely with high-ranking personal from the Yorkshire Regiment and the Yorkshire Gunners, who are extremely keen on making all of the planned events as successful as possible. The initial decision to partner the armed forces was inspired by the tragic loss of six British soldiers on patrol in Afghanistan in 2012. Five of the men were from the 3rd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment, three coming directly from Huddersfield.

“Neither the Yorkshire Regiment nor the Yorkshire Gunners have ever been supported in this manner by a sports brand as big as the Huddersfield Giants which gives us great pride, and we believe the ‘Side by Side’ campaign will be strongly embraced by all of the Claret and Gold faithful as well as the Huddersfield community which will help make the venture as successful as possible.”
