Sydney Roosters’ hopes of signing suspended Giants star Brett Ferres could be dashed.

The top Australia NRL club were looking to secure the services of the England back-row forward on a season-long loan deal.

Reports in Australia earlier this week suggested the Roosters had agreed terms with Ferres following his suspension by Huddersfield for an alleged extra-marital affair. He is currently banned by the Giants pending an investigation into his behaviour.

But with Ferres still having four years remaining on his current Giants contract and the Super League club expecting a fee or player swap deal with the Roosters if they took him to Australia, the 29-year-old looks like he could be staying put.

There is no shortage of interest in Ferres, however, with at least two other NRL clubs and two from Super League – thought to be Hull FC and Salford – keen to sign the former Bradford and Castleford man.
