TOM HEMINGWAY returns to competitive action tomorrow to provide the Giants with a timely boost ahead of Sunday’s home Super League clash against Castleford (3.00).

Although the 21-year-old’s comeback following shoulder surgery will be for the Reserves against Castleford at Laund Hill (2.00), Giants chief Jon Sharp believes the timing is perfect.

Hemingway was expected to be sidelined for at least another month, but has made a superb recovery.

And with the Giants lacking strong back-up at half-back and on the goalkicking front, Sharp is delighted to have another key option at his disposal.

“We hadn’t expected to have Tom back so soon, so this is a tremendous boost,” said Sharp.

“He’s worked very hard on his rehabilitation and is now gaining his reward.

“Tom gives us excellent cover in the halves, where we can be a bit light, and it’s now up to him to play well and keep those players who have been on Super League duty so far on their toes.

“Tom’s been looking strong in training, and if he shapes up well in the Reserves I would have no hesitation whatsoever in considering him for a Super League start.

“You just can’t beat genuine competition for places, and that’s exactly what Tom gives us.”
