HUDDERSFIELD Giants' club photographer John Rushworth has picked up a top rugby league award.

His picture of Paul Reilly and 15-month-old daughter Joni (above), taken at the end of the Giants last game of the season against Bradford Bulls, has been chosen as the engage Super League Photograph of the Year.

Entitled 'A Family Game', the photograph was chosen by an engage Mutual assurance panel of judges and earned John a £500 cash prize.

During the 28 rounds of Super League, engage invited rugby league photographers to submit their best images, with over 50 vying for the award.

That's a sign of how tough it was to win.

But a delighted Reilly beleives the panel got it right.

"I'm sure the standard of the competition would have been very high," said Reilly.

"But I think what probably clinched it for John was the fact he didn't go for the usual rugby league action shot.

"Instead, he chose to go for the family angle, which fits in with the sport's image and that of engage.

"On top of that, John is a great photographer."
