HUDDERSFIELD Giants are ready to hand debuts to Brad Drew, Chris Thorman and Paul Jackson in Saturday's Super League X opener at Leigh Centurions (6.05).

Coach Jon Sharp and Leigh counterpart Darren Abram have revealed their squads as part of the new Super League system where clubs must provide a 20-man line-up 72 hours before kick-off.

The only key men missing from the Giants list are big Australian signing Michael De Vere, who misses out as he recovers from knee surgery, and prop Mick Slicker.

The absence of Slicker is simply down to the fact he hasn't been picked rather than suffering an injury, which underlines the strength of the squad at Sharp's disposal.

In Slicker's place is back-rower Iain Morrison, who is rewarded for his solid show in the pre-season game at Bradford on January 30.

The one major omission in Leigh's squad is new captain and former Giants skipper Darren Fleary, who is struggling with a knee injury.

There are, however, places for fellow ex-Giants Ben Cooper, Paul Rowley, Oliver Wilkes and Matt Sturm.

The squads will be trimmed down to 18 on the eve of the match itself, but it would be a massive shock if the three new Giants were not to feature significantly.

"Paul and Chris both performed well for us at Bradford, and even though Brad missed the game with a bout of flu I'm fully aware of his capabilities," said Sharp.

"That's why all three are in the frame, although a lot could change between now and the time the match kicks off."
