HUDDERSFIELD-BORN hooker Darren Turner returns to action on Sunday to lead the Giants against Leeds Rhinos in Francis Cummins' testimonial clash at Headingley (3.00).

The 30-year-old missed last Friday's 36-0 victory over Castleford at the McAlpine as he waited for the all-clear following minor shoulder surgery during the off-season.

But Turner has this week been given the green light to resume competitive action and, as the club's new vice captain, will lead out Huddersfield this weekend.

That's because skipper Darren Fleary has been named on the bench, with head coach Jon Sharp fully confident Turner will do an excellent job in his absence.

"It was obvious Darren hated being stuck with me on the sidelines for the Cas game last week," said Sharp.

"If it was up to him he would have been playing.

"He's been flying for the past couple of weeks and couldn't wait for the pre-season games to come along.

"But we felt it was best all-round for the specialist to make the final decision, and that wasn't until the start of this week.

"I know Darren feels as if he needs to make up for lost time because he missed the Cas match and I know he's desperate for a big game on Sunday."

Turner's return means Sean Penkywicz, who was man-of-the-match for the Giants against the Tigers, is named on the bench.

This is one of a number of switches in the pack, although the back line remains unchanged (full details - Page 20).

"I've named another very strong side, just as Leeds have done," added Sharp.

"And we know we need to be at strength because we're facing a team that is potentially the biggest in Super League.

"They have top-class players throughout their side, and everyone in Huddersfield knows how good a coach Tony Smith is.

"Everyone at the Giants is braced for a very big test."

Leeds welcome back Great Britain centre Keith Senior, who has not played since picking up a thumb injury in November's second Test against Australia.
