TOUGH Giants hooker Darren Turner has undergone minor knee surgery in a bid to regain full fitness.

The 29-year-old has been struggling with a problem to his right knee all season.

But it came to a head during the Challenge Cup semi-final defeat to St Helens when he was forced to retire midway through the contest.

He has missed the last two games against Warrington and Hull as a result. But it is hoped the surgery will mean that Turner can return to action sooner rather than later.

"Darren went in for the operation yesterday," confirmed Giants coach Jon Sharp.

"Initially, we had hoped the injury would clear by itself.

"But he took another heavy bang to the knee against St Helens, and has been struggling since then.

"Hopefully, undergoing the surgery now will mean he only misses a couple more games.

"We obviously don't have a game this weekend because it's the Challenge Cup final.

"And by the time we travel to play London Broncos the following Sunday, Rocky won't be too far away. He will want to get back as quickly as is possible, that's for sure."
