DESPITE having the Indian sign over Wakefield in recent seasons – last term’s four meetings all produced Giants victories – coach Jon Sharp is not about to let history cloud the issue for tonight’s televised clash at the Galpharm (6.00).

“We understand that Wakefield have a team that work really hard for each other,” he said.

“We are well aware that we are going to have to be at our best if we are going to beat them.”

Wakefield sit one place and one point above the Giants in Super League, but for Sharp the test is all about improving on their recent performances when, at times, wins have narrowly eluded them.

“We know that we have to work on our kicking game if we are going to put pressure on teams – and that when we have done the hard work to present ourselves with the opportunity to win then we must go on and do that,” said Sharp (pictured).

“It is only right to ignore the history books and what happened in this fixture last year.

“These are now two different teams and we have to deal with this game on its own merits.

“I am sure because of recent matches there will be some level of expectation from our supporters, but all we can do is concentrate on improving ourselves and our performance.

“This is a game where we have got to aim to make sure we play for the full 80 minutes.

“At times we have not put games to bed when we have had the chance and we really have got to make that our main focus.”
