Huddersfield Giants skipper Danny Brough produced another man-of-the-match performance to see his side through to a 19-0 win at Salford Red Devils.

With his own measured kicking game, and the Giants defensive line adopting their ususal miserly approach, Brough had every reason to feel that the Giants are heading in the right direction going into the second half of the season.

“The conditions do help when you are the kicker and the game is a bit slower,” said Brough after the battle at a rain-lashed AJ Bell Stadium.

“You get a little bit more time and we worked on the kick and chase.

“But I don’t feel as though I am in top form, but do feel I am playing okay but the forwards are doing a great job for us.

“They get a bit of stick off most teams, but for the last few games they have turned up and done a really good job and it makes my job a lot easier when they are playing like that.

“The defence has been great, and while Salford had key players missing, in Super League if you can beat a team ‘to nil’ then you have got a good result.”

The win at Salford was payback for an 18-12 home defeat for the Giants over Easter, and followed on the heels of a similar reversal at Hull FC, but Brough said wins and not revenge were at the basis of the Giants effort.

“We are picking momentum and it was not so much revenge as that we are looking at how we are going to pick up the two points from every game,” said Brough.

“Having said that you don’t want any team doing the double over you in the season, so to stop that happening against Hull and Salford is a bonus.

“We are still a long way to go to getting in the play-offs, but if we are there we have got to take the view that is is almost like the cup at the end of the season.

“We don’t to get knocked out early if we get there, but the first job is to ensure we are in that top eight – and hopefully the top four to give ourselves the best chance we can have.

“We are looking quite tight as a squad at the moment everybody is chipping in at training and doing their bit, and when you have a team where everybody is doing their job to the best of their abilities it is pretty good.

“That is basically what we have been doing over recent matches and if one person makes a mistake then there are 16 other blokes there ready to back him up and make up for it.

“Right now as a 17 we are doing a decent job and that is why we are getting the wins.”
