THE Giants have released back-row forwards Jon Molloy and Matthew Sarsfield from the final year of their contracts by mutual consent.

The 21-year-olds arrived from Wigan two years ago, with Molloy having made two Super League appearances and Sarsfield having failed to make the breakthrough into the first team and with the level of competition for places in the pack being fierce, it was felt a move would be in the interest of all concerned.

"Everyone can see the massive selection options available to head coach Paul Anderson in the back-row area," explained Giants managing director Richard Thewlis.

"The reality is that Matthew and Jon would have faced a huge task trying to get ahead of the likes of Ferres, Chan, Lawrence, O’Donnell and Ta’ai, with further competition for their spots coming from Fairbank, Cording and Aspinall.

"So it was felt best for the players to be able to get regular game-time that they move on and I expect both to announce clubs for 2013 soon."
