Upbeat Matty English is determined to build on his dream trip to Australia with the England Academy and ensure it makes him a better player for the Giants.

The young Huddersfield prop featured in both Test matches for his country against the Australian Schoolboys.

And despite being on the losing side on both occasions, English admitted he loved his time experiencing a different side to rugby league.

“It was probably the best experience of my life so far,” said English.

“I just loved every minute of the rugby and the lifestyle out there, even though the Test matches themselves proved so tough.

“The games were very physical and probably the toughest I’ve ever been involved in. I’m disappointed with the results but personally I thought I went alright.”

But it wasn’t just the Test rugby that was a highlight for English.

The England Academy players also had the chance to train alongside the Manly Sea Eagles Australian NRL squad and have a kicking session with former NRL star Andrew Johns.

On top of that, league superstars Sam Burgess and Trent Barrett came to speak to the players in their dressing room after the first Test.

“It was a bit mind-blowing to see the people you idolise right in front of you and training with you,” added English.

“It could have all been a bit daunting, but I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish.

“And I think the fact the Giants Head of Youth, Andy Kelly, was the England Academy coach helped me, too.

“It was good to go out with Andy, we have a good relationship and it only got stronger out there.

“So, hopefully, I can build on that and build on my Australian experience to help make me a better player for the Giants.”
