Huddersfield Giants chief Paul Anderson is hoping Ben Blackmore can put the disappointment of Friday’s demoralising defeat at St Helens behind him and keep on improving.

The 21-year-old winger marked his first Super League appearance of 2014 by crossing for two well-taken tries. Those were unable to prevent the Giants from suffering a 41-22 defeat at Langtree Park and halt a run of five straight wins.

Anderson immediately hinted after the game he was considering making changes to his side for Thursday’s home clash against in-form Super League champions Wigan Warriors, with wingers Jodie Broughton (groin) and Jermaine McGillvary (ankle) expected to be back in the frame.

And even though their return could mean Blackmore’s spell in the senior side was restricted to one game, Anderson has made it clear it would be no reflection of the way the youngster performed.

“Blackie certainly wasn’t our worst out there,” said Anderson.

“He did some of the big things in the game really well, including scoring two tries by finishing well.

“But he’s still learning on things like his attention and working on the small areas of the game.

“He is continuing to improve all the time, and hopefully that improvement will continue, despite the disappointment he shared with everyone else over the way things went. I’m now looking for a positive reaction from everyone in the wake of such a poor effort.”
