Huddersfield Rugby Union club’s latest signing is a first-time convert from rugby league!

But coach Gareth Lewis reckons Brandon Conway could make a valuable contribution when it comes to the National III North campaign.

Lewis – whose side have been drawn at home to Sheffield in the Yorkshire Cup on Saturday, October 15 – has added several new faces to the core group at Lockwood Park, who are now preparing for pre-season friendlies.

The 21-year-old Conway, who stands 6ft tall and weighs in at 96kg (just over 15st), has played centre, full-back and second row in rugby league.

“I joined Huddersfield RU because I’ve always wanted to change codes and Huddersfield have given me the chance to do so,” said Conway, who has played for Feathestone Rovers, Hunslet Hawks and Wakefield Wildcats.

“My dream is to be a professional player and, with the coaching on offer, I believe i can achieve this.

“It’s a great team to be a part of, with a great set of lads who’ve made it easy to fit in.”

Lewis, whose first pre-season match is at Lichfield on Saturday, August 13, is pleased to have Conway on board.

“Brandon approached us looking for an opportunity in rugby union,” explained the coach, who is bidding for an immediate return to National II level.

“His attitude throughout pre season so far has been first class and we’re looking forward to seeing how he goes in our pre-season friendlies against Lichfield and Preston Grasshoppers.”

The Preston match is at home on Saturday, August 20.
