Losing their unbeaten home record summed up a day of total frustration for Huddersfield.

That was the view of deflated player-coach Gareth Lewis after his side’s 22-14 Lockwood Park defeat to Birmingham & Solihull.

Huddersfield have proved an almost unstoppable force on home territory during their current National II North campaign, with three wins and two draws – including a battling 19-19 scoreline against title-chasing Amphtill – ahead of hosting the men from the Midlands.

But that unbeaten record came to an abrupt and painful halt against a Birmingham side struggling at the wrong em for the table.

And Lewis admitted it was a tough defeat to take.

“To lose our unbeaten home record in the way we did summed up what was a really awful day,” said Lewis.

“If they (Birmingham & Solihull) had played us off the park or had to work incredibly hard to get the better of us, then we’d have had to accept that.

“But to instead lose this game by conceding some soft tries and playing dumb rugby is very hard to swallow. We showed two weeks before with that draw full of character against Ampthill what we’re capable of doing.

“It was a performance which left no-one in any doubt how proud and determined we are not to be beaten at home, so to lose that record so meekly couldn’t have summed up our day any better.”
