SCOTT BENTON will make his first start as Huddersfield re-shuffle their side in a bid to finally open their National II North account.

The men from Lockwood Park remain rock bottom of the table after suffering a ninth straight defeat with last week’s heart-breaking 32-30 home loss to Westoe.

Coach Dan Hyde’s men now face the prospect of travelling to Birmingham tomorrow (3.00) desperate to avoid making it 10 defeats out of 10.

And Hyde is hoping handing experienced new backs player/coach Benton a first start at scrum half and switching established No9 Joel Hinchliffe to fly-half can kick-start the campaign.

“This is a move which has been somewhat forced on us,” said Hyde, who has revealed winger David Hall is to take a break from playing to concentrate on running the family business.

“But there’s no reason at all why this new half-back combination can’t prove a winning one.

“When Scott arrived for the start of this season, the plan was to use him off the bench to either give us a timely lift or help us close out a game.

“Unfortunately, with the ways things have panned out, both in terms of results and player personnel, we felt this new partnership was worth giving a go.

“Scott obviously brings a wealth of experience to the role, while we know Joel won’t let anyone down.

“Hopefully, this move will be just what we need, although we know this alone won’t change our season around.

“It’s also vital we start cutting out the schoolboy errors, which have been costing us so dearly.

“Managing to do that would also improve our chances dramatically.”
