Huddersfield could have a number of fresh faces on show when the club stages a Possibles v Probables clash at Lockwood Park tomorrow night.

The in-club encounter is the first of three warm-up fixtures before the opening National II North clash at home to South Leicester at Lockwood Park on Saturday, September 6.

And with a trip to Sheffield Tigers on Saturday and home clash against the might of Yorkshire Carnegie seven days later, Huddersfield head coach Gareth Lewis is confident his pre-season schedule is spot-on.

The three-game programme will give summer signings, winger Tom Clough and loose-head prop Adam Tamanis, the chance to underline their value to their new club, while Lewis is also excited to see how youngsters Lewis Workman, Lewis Bradley, Danny Granger and Gypsy Black handle the step up from Academy level.

“Pre-season has gone exceptionally well, with average numbers of around 35 turning up for each session,” said Lewis.

“We’ve already had specialist sessions delivered by Phil Larder (England World Cup winner and British and Irish lions defensive coach) and Matt Clarke (Doncaster Knights coach) and those have put everyone in a positive mood ahead of our warm-up games.

“Everyone’s looking forward to getting out there for the Possibles v Probables game, and then the two others against some very tough opposition.

“Sheffield Tigers are being widely tipped to have a big season, while we know Yorkshire Carnegie will present a huge challenge because they’re a full-time outfit and will really test us.

“But these are the sort of tests we need.

“We know National II North promises to be tougher than last season because of the strength of some of the clubs who are about to enter the competition.

“So it’s vitally important we’re as battle-hardened and we possibly can be before the season gets under way.”
