Morley 10

Huddersfield RUFC 31

(National III North)

Huddersfield got back to winning ways with victory away to Morley.

It didn’t take long for the visitors to get on the scoresheet, with the opening try arriving in the seventh minute.

Fly-half Tom Hodson was the scorer, after centre Tom Owen had done the ground work.

Morley hit back, scoring a try of their own from a breakaway, but Huddersfield’s captain Nick Sharpe promptly replied.

Sharpe read a Morley quick line-out perfectly to put in a big hit on the receiver and collect the fumble for a try.

The first half ended with Morley converting a penalty, leaving the visitors leading 14-10 at the interval.

Morley captain Mark Chester was sin-binned early in the second period and the home side can count themselves lucky to have only conceded three points during those 10 minutes.

Hodson was outstanding with the boot with a perfect five from five record and retains his place as the top point scorer in the division.

But Sharpe was the key figure, leading from the front and being a rock in defence.

Other good performances came from winger Elliot Hodgson, and centres Michael Clarke and Owen – with Hodgson and Clark going in for a try apiece.

Field remain second place and face ninth-placed Penrith next.

YMCA were 52-5 winners at Malton and Norton in North I East – match report in tomorrow’s Examiner Sport.
