Six of Huddersfield RUFC’s Under 17 squad have been included in the West Yorkshire Development Squad for the 2013-14 season.

The player development trials were held at the Keighley RUFC ground and six nominated players from Huddersfield RUFC – Elliott Spiers, Nathan Smith, Louis Frear, Ian Nuttall, Lewis Bradley and Will Burgess – attended the trial.

All six players have been selected in the final 26 man squad continuing the club’s record of player recognition at county representative level.

Huddersfield’s Under 15 side took on Middlesbrough and notched a 27-7 win.

Huddersfield, with four players unavailable, welcomed the return of Titus Gwaze and Ben Sykes.

However, the visiting Middlesbrough squad were a powerful group and they had the advantage in the early scrums but their backs could not take advantage of the possession.

Huddersfield took the lead when fly half Arthur Wilkinson took advantage of any loose ball and raced away to touch down.

Then Titus Gwaze made a break that eventually led to Wilkinson scoring his second try.

Harry Woodhouse was the next to take advantage of the windy conditions and made a break, support came from James Addy and good passing through the backs and forwards allowed debutant Morgan Longley to run through a gap to score his first try for club and it was converted by Addy.

Middlesbrough managed to reply with a converted try to make the score 17-7 at half-time, but straight from the kick-off in the second half Huddersfield were able to apply pressure and force Middlesbrough back From a scrum the home side again produced a pick up and drive and Gwaze he released the ball to Woodhouse who forced his way over.

The Huddersfield pack, and particularly props Nathan Horsfall and Elliot Cressey, stuck to their task and were able to win enough ball for their backs to do damage.

Much of the second half was an even contest but Huddersfield’s final was the best try of the game and came from good play by the backs, with well-timed passes down the three-quarter line out to winger Ben Hawker to score an excellent try in the corner.
