Huddersfield RUFC lost 31-22 in a highly competitive away game against Caldy – missing the chance to achieve a third win in a row.

The visitors applied early pressure, but Joel Hinchliffe had an early setback as he missed a penalty, and in the sixth minute Huddersfield were hit hard as Caldy’s Nicholas Royle scored an unconverted try.

On the 15th minute Huddersfield managed to reply as Nick Sharpe scored a try and a second soon followed as Michael Clarke darted down the left wing to score – though both touchdowns went unconverted.

Caldy managed to get back on terms in the 34th minute Jack Lavin crossed and the conversion from Benjamin Jones gave the home team a two point advantage at half-time.

The home side started the second half with more determination and on 50 minutes Andrew Soutar scored a try to take his team into a seven point lead.

Huddersfield replied in the best possible manner as Hinchliffe scored two tries, but in the 70th minute Caldy substitute Christian Jones increased the home side’s advantage scoring a try and the conversion was added by Richard Vasey and a further try and goal sealed success.
