Huddersfield RUFC have continued the strengthening of their squad for next season with the signing of highly-rated Guyana international Sevens winger Dominic Lespierre.

The 27-year-old Lespierre has an impressive pedigree following spells with UWA in Perth, South Magpies Club in Brisbane, Castleford Tigers Rugby League Club and more recently a short spell with National II North rivals Hull.

Huddersfield Head Coach Gareth Lewis said: “Dominic will bring proven talent, personality and a voice to our back line. He has serious pace and will be a threat to many sides in the league.

“We have strengthened a lot in the forward pack so it’s great to add to the back line. Hopefully this will enable us to play a varied game plan, something that we will certainly need to do in the season ahead.”

Speaking about becoming a Huddersfield player, Lespierre said: “I’m very excited to be part of a team that looks to have a good balance of youth and experience, which has obviously paid dividends through getting promoted last year.

“I think the main aim for the season is to stay in the league whilst looking to play a good and exciting brand of rugby.”

Huddersfield are currently five weeks into their pre-season training campaign and are preparing for pre-season fixtures at home to Sheffield Tigers on August 23 and Cleackheaton on August 30.

The league season starts at Chester on September 6.

Lewis added: “We were put in touch with Dominic by a contact of mine, Michael Smith, who said that if we wanted anyone for a specific area he might be able to help.

“When I spoke to him he was really keen to meet and, when he joined us to do some running on the hills up at Farnley Tyas, he was just destroying everyone straight away.

“He really is very keen and focused on the game and he adds some genuine pace to our back line, which is what we’ve needed.”
