Huddersfield YMCA suffered their first defeat of 2014 as they were beaten 29-19 at Laund Hill by Sheffield.

The defeat ended an unbeaten run that stretched nine games, and into the bargain leaders Cleckheaton finally confirmed the North I east title as they trounced Morpeth 45-0.

Second placed YMCA are heading for the play-offs but will have been disappointed with the performance against a South Yorkshire side they appeared to have on the ropes in the early stages.

YMCA raced in front as winger Adam Ryder bagged the opening try and Gavin Stead added the goal.

They then added another try from a line-out with Simon Wilson finding a route over the lone..

Sheffield then hit back with two tries and a touchdown from an interception handed the visitors a 15-12 half-time lead.

YMCA looked to have restored normal service in the second half as Stead sent Ryder through for his second try and then added the goal, but the home side soon let their four points lead slip as they grabbed a try in the corner and then ensured victory with a score from a catch and drive at a line-out.
