Huddersfield YMCA head to Wheatley Hills tomorrow knowing victory will move them a step closer to their dream of progressing into the National Leagues.

With six games of the regular North East I season remaining, the men from Laund Hill are looking a good bet for a top-two finish.

Coach Jody Shaw concedes his side could be hard-pressed to catch leaders Cleckheaton.

But he knows a win over in Doncaster this weekend means a play-off place against the team that finishes second in North West I would become even more of a reality.

“We’re not getting carried away, but the thought of going up is still very much on our agenda,” said Shaw.

“At this stage, that looks like it would come via the play-offs.

“But we can forget all about that if we don’t go to Wheatley Hills tomorrow and get the job done.

“It won’t be easy, because they are a strong, physical side.

“But when our own stakes are so high, I’m confident everyone will rise to the occasion and make sure we keep our bid for a place in the National Leagues alive. That’s our driving force right now.”
