Huddersfield YMCA scored an impressive second win in National III North with a 48-31 success at Morley.

The Scatcherd Lane outfit started the season well, but YMCA now hold a four point advantage over their West Yorkshire rivals after their victory.

YMCA didn’t see much of the ball in the opening minutes and went 7-0 down after the Morley prop Ben Bell barrelled over the line and Kenny Sewell tagged on the extra points.

In a tight first half, that ended 19-19, the visitors were soon back on terms as Gavin Stead to burst through for a try and added the goal.

Back in front went Morley as YM centre Adam Ryder’s pass was intercepted by Marshall who sprinted away to core and Sewell converted.

The see-saw tilted back as Ritchie Hawkyard nipped through and Stead converted, but Hawkyard went from hero to villain when his kick was returned and Sewell crossed, but he couldn’t add the goal.

But YM were level by the break as Ryder put winger Lloyd Bentley to score in the corner.

YMCA got in front for the first time in the second half as Chris Clarke beat the line to score and Stead tagged on the extras and they increased their lead as Bentley crossed and Stead was once again accurate.

Morley hooker Ashford was sin-binned for infringing around the ruck and captain James Bell instructed Stead to take the three points from the penalty, which he duly did.

YM became a little sloppy in possession and they allowed Morley to reply when the ball was lost in a ruck and scrum half Dadswell dived over for a try, but Sewell was off target.

The visitors came straight back and Sam Hodge who went over in the corner , but Stead was wide of the mark with the conversion attempt.

With the score at 24-41 it looked as though the YM had done enough to take the honours.

Wilson was inexplicably yellow carded shortly afterwards but it had little impact on the game. Hodge went into scrum half and the visitors continued to grind the game out.

Morley had one final hurrah when their handy looking full back Van der Merwe skipped out of a couple of tackles and made a break to get a late score which went unconverted to bring the score to 31-41

The last word was with the YM when Ryder picked up a stray ball and went for the line to score under the posts, leaving Steads conversion a formality and bringing the final score to 31-48
