HUDDERSFIELD duo Lewis Bradley and Will Burgess have been selected to play for Yorkshire’s Under 16 side.

The two forwards have been for county trials and have been selected for the Yorkshire training squad who will meet up next month before playing a series of county matches through October and November.

The Lockwood Park club’s Academy side have made a great start to the season with back-to-back wins over York and Keighley.

The first game produced an excellent performance at York, where Huddersfield were beaten twice last year, but the new-look team produced a hard-working display to win 28-17.

Huddersfield grabbed the lead through Louis Cooper following a length of the field break by stand-off Allen Carr, and another score from scrum half Josh Walker, along with a penalty from the same player gave the visitors a 13-12 half-time lead.

Huddersfield’s forwards set up a chance for winger George Price, who beat two defenders on the way to crossing under the posts, converted by Walker, and the visitors bagged a bonus-point try before the close when Gill went over the line.

For the game against Keighley at Lockwood Park, Huddersfield were hampered by a lack of players and had to take the field one man down.

Keighley caught the home side out of position with a kick over the top, and their stand-off went under the sticks for a converted try.

Huddersfield, with their forwards well-marshalled by Walker, began to dominate and prop Macauley Robinson went over, which was quickly followed by a second try from Walker, converted by Carr to put Huddersfield 12-7 ahead.

The teams were evened up for a short while as Keighley had one man sent to the sin-bin, during which time Huddersfield scored two tries – the first coming from second rower Ed Black and then Greg Thornton went over, the try converted by Walker for a 24-7 half-time lead.

The second half saw Huddersfield score another three tries through Black, Sam Wood and Thornton.

The club’s Junior Colts won their first league game of the season hammering Ilkley 72-12.

Second rower Elliot Clemson set the tone for the Under 17 side when from the kick-off, the debutant knocked over the Ilkley catcher, after which the visitors were given little opportunity.

Debutant Oliver Kirk had an excellent game at inside centre, scoring one try and creating another for winger Matt Sherring-Lucas, who scored two tries, as did right winger Lewis Berry.

The backs benefited from Huddersfield’s dominant pack, who were tight in the scrummage and dominant in the line-out with Callum Swift crossing for a try, while there was another brace from Greg Thornton.
